The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (CMRTA) is a public entity created under Section 58-25 of the South Carolina Code of Laws, Regional Transit Authority Enabling Act. The primary purpose of the CMRTA is to administer, manage and operate fixed route bus service and demand-response paratransit service, in and around the Columbia, South Carolina urbanized area.

The CMRTA functions under the direction of the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is made up of representatives of the following local jurisdictions, many of which are local elected officials:

Arcadia Lakes Batesburg-Leesville

Blythewood Cayce

Chapin City of Columbia

Eastover Forest Acres

Lexington County Town of Lexington

Pine Ridge Richland County

South Congaree Springdale

West Columbia

The overall mission of the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority is to be responsible for seeing that its local transit and paratransit services, meet, to the maximum extent feasible and within the constraints of existing resources, the needs of the area's fixed route transit and paratransit service dependent population.

Typically, the full board meets the last Monday of every month at 1PM. There is no meeting in November and the full board meets the second Monday in December.
